The
creative concepts fueling this Hello Galena feature have a family
flare as NorthWest Designs boasts a trio of talented craftspeople:
Pennie, Daryl & Drew Groezinger.
Believe
& Inspire ~ Where Inspiration Meets Art
Believe in
God, Believe In Yourself and Believe In Your Family is a saying
that Pennie, Daryl and Drew Groezinger hold fast. Believing
in each other’s abilities, this family has nurtured and expanded
their interest in the arts. In 2003, at age five, Drew expressed
an interest in glass and took a bead class. The first bead he
made was clear glass with red dots, which he strung on a bookmark.
Drew purchased
a torch and glass supplies with his birthday money and since
adult supervision was required, he taught his parents bead-making
basics. Family and friends loved the jewelry, bookmarks, and
other decorative items coming from their workshop. Soon, glass
pendants were added to the line, and they started participating
in juried art shows in Illinois and Wisconsin. In just four
years, the family pastime has grown to the thriving business
known as NorthWest Designs, which also includes custom, handcrafted
log furniture. Most weekends, you’ll find the Groezinger’s traveling
to an artist community where they exhibit and sell their jewelry
at juried events.
Asked what
they like best about making beads, Daryl says it’s relaxing
to design and create. Drew likes it as a way to focus on the
task at hand. Pennie cites the motivation and opportunity to
share family time together. She also says her 92-year-old Grandma
Groezinger has been her inspiration with her reminder to always
stay busy with your family as they are a gift from God.
In addition
to finding the Groezinger's work in the Hello Galena store and
at various juried art shows, visitors will find NorthWest Designs

Designs Purse Clip
Simplicity at its best. The ideal way to keep track of
your keys whether you are shopping or walking, this large
purse clip is the answer. The large clip with a swivel
base measures 2 1/2". At the base of this functional and
'fun' piece of art is a handcrafted artisan glass bead.
The artisan selected a transparent cobalt blue for the
base of this bead and accented it with soft blue swirls
floating throughout. The total length is 5 1/4" and fits
on most purses, belt loops, backpacks, coats and vests.
A great way to expres your unique style with this fun
piece of art while providing you with function. As the
artisan, I strive to create unique pieces with a whimsical
touch. The inspirational saying at the base of the torchwork
bead sums it up 'wish'. In our art studio we strive hard
to live up to our goal which is 'Believe & Inspire'. This
piece does just that.
