From
pulp to painting and now puppet mittens, follow the path this
talented artist has taken to become one of our featured artists
at Hello Galena. Learn more about Susan Brusch from her
own words:
My dream
was to work in a creative field. I accomplished that during
my 28-year career in advertising and publishing where I started
out as a designer and worked my way up to management and lead
positions. Yet, I always needed to work with my hands doing
arts and crafts. During the last 10 years, while working in
college textbook publishing, I used sewing as my creative outlet.
I retired from publishing in January 2008 and now have the time
to explore creative ways to use my skills.
Art
has dominated my life. My interests include: photography, painting,
drawing/illustrating, sculpting, and fiber arts. I have formal
art training from the University of Minnesota and Rock Valley
College.
My current
art form is Heirloom Mittens that are handmade, 100%
felted wool. Each pair of mittens is one-of-a kind; some even
include original needle-felted designs on the top of the mittens.
I've created a couple of puppet mittens and will expand this
line if there is demand for them.
I
have served on the board for Galena Cultural Arts Alliance (GCAA)
for 7 years and on the Advisory Board for Hello Galena! for
5 years. I currently have my Heirloom Mittens for sale exclusively
at Hello Galena Artist Cooperative in downtown Galena.
Susan’s
handcrafted work is for sale at Hello Galena, at 121 N. Commerce
St., in Galena. Find online map, store hours
