Hello
Galena! Gallery Presents "Meet
the Artists" Event
Saturday,
June 28 from 1 to 3 p.m.
GALENA,
IL -- Hello, Galena!, a local artist co-op, is presenting its
“Meet the Artists” event on Saturday, June 28, from 1 p.m. to
3 p.m. The event is free and will take place under a white tent
outside of the Hello, Galena shop. To kick off the event, musician
Leonardo will perform for
the live audience. Not only is he known for his fine, classy,
and beautiful music, but he has played with Carlos Santana and
is a friend of Jerry Garcia. Fans have praised Leonardo’s music
worldwide, and he is in demand both locally and nationally.
Hello, Galena! is proud to have Leonardo entertain visitors
with his “lush sounds” and “spectacular” guitar music. The “Meet
the Artists” event will also feature local visual artists who
will demonstrate their creative processes.
On June
28, the public will be able to watch three local artists at
work: Jacquie Dyrke, rock art painter, Mercedes Govert, painter
and pressed flower artist, and Toni Klingler, basket weaver
and gourd artist.
The public
is invited to bring their families to watch the artists at work
and to take part of some of the creation.
Toni
Klingler
will create a basket from scratch, using the input from the
visitors, whether they are adults or children. Visitors can
help her pick the colors as she weaves her creation before their
eyes. The basket will then be sold, with the profits going to
charity.
Mercedes
Govert will demonstrate how to use a flower press,
and will teach the audience to create this type of art on their
own. She will also help young onlookers create their own pressed
flower creations, whether it’s a card or picture, using local
flowers from her garden.
Jacquie
Dyrke
will create her unique rock art. She will be painting and demonstrating
how she starts with an idea and ends up with a beautiful piece
of artwork.
Kimberley
Poe-Jensen, Hello, Galena’s new manager, worked together with
the Hello, Galena! board to come up with this event. It is an
effort to get the public more educated and more involved with
the arts.
“There is
so much local talent in the area, and we want to get people
interested in it. Whether they appreciate art or create it themselves,
we want to encourage people of all ages to use their creativity,”
Poe-Jensen said.
Hello, Galena!
plans to host monthly “Meet the Artists” events on the last
Saturday’s of the month at the same time and location through
September. There will be different artists working on their
artwork each month under the tent.
“This allows
people to see different artists at work. Creation is a beautiful
process and it often inspires others to use their talents or
to learn a craft,” she said.
Hello, Galena!
is a non-profit organization made up of over 65 local artists.
It is staffed by volunteers and features only local artwork
and crafts. It is located at 121 N. Commerce Street, Galena,
Ill. It is open Monday’s, and Thursday’s through Saturday’s
