First-Ever
Sale at Hello Galena -- Holiday Open House Nov. 28 & 29
For the
first time in Hello Galena's history, the local artist co-op
is having a Holiday Open House Sale, which will be held the
two days after Thanksgiving. The two-day sale will be held on
Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 29 at 121 N. Commerce Street.
The hours of the sale will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, and
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Free hot coffee, cider and sweets
will be served to customers during that time.
"I have
never seen artists offer a sale like this before. This is going
to be a wonderful event, and it's a great way to stock up on
Christmas gifts as these items won't be on sale later," Kimberley
Poe-Jensen, Hello Galena manager, said.
The sale
will complement the Galena Holiday Parade, as the shop will
be open extra late so that shoppers can stop in after the parade.
Santa and
Mrs. Claus will lead the parade and its spectators to the Market
House, next door to the Hello Galena Co-op. After children meet
Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and receive their gift, they can come inside
Hello Galena and purchase locally made products and warm up
with some hot drinks and other refreshments.
Various
local artists will offer discounts on their items, such as:
- Buy
two lotions, get one free
- Buy two
earrings, get one half-off
- Buy two
children's bracelets, get one free
- 20% off
knitted items by Helen
- 30% off
Becky Sisco's book, 'Garders
and Grit
- Larry's
traditional wooden pens $5 off
- And much
more.
The release
of Scott Waterhouse's new CD, "A Spot in the Shade," also will
be for sale for only $10.
"Scott is
a new artist with Hello Galena. Although he's been playing for
a while, and many people are familiar with his music, it's a
first for the co-op to have his music," Poe-Jensen said.
In addition
to the sales and special offers, two local artists, Zelma
Clark and charlene buran
price, will have two pieces of artwork available for a raffle.
Local basket-weaver
and Galena Cultural Arts Alliance (GCAA) president, Toni
Klingler, also will have a hand-woven basket available for
winning through a raffle. She will also have some of her baskets
on sale for $20 each.
"This is
unheard of -- to get a basket by Toni for under $40. Her work
is beautiful," Poe-Jensen said.
All three
of these artists are regular volunteers at Hello Galena, and
want to help raise funds for the local co-op's operating expenses.
The raffle tickets will be available for purchase only on Friday,
Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29 during the open house sale. The
winners will be called and their names will be posted in the
"Galena Gazette" newspaper, as well as here on the co-op's website.
Not only
does the Holiday Open House allow people to purchase local artwork
and fine crafts, it also supports local artists. "Hello Galena
offers a nice commission to its artists, and helps them share
their work with many local citizens and tourists," Poe-Jensen,
said.
For those
who especially want to meet the artists, there will be four
different people available on Friday. Clark
will be at Hello Galena on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to
sign her paintings. Helen Mayberry will be at the store to showcase
her hand-knitted items, and is offering a discount as well.
For those
who are interested in getting a signed copy of Becky Sisco's
book, "Garders and Grit," she will be at Hello Galena on Friday
from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Customers are encouraged to stop in and
get her books at 30% off Friday and Saturday, and also meet
her in person on Friday. She will be available for signing her
books and her artwork.
Kimberley
Poe-Jensen, of "Beaded Delights on Hill" and manager of
Hello Galena, will also be at the store on Friday evening after
the parade to answer questions about her jewelry and sign pieces.
Saturday's
artists who are slated to attend and work are: basket-weaver
Klingler, stained glass
artist Trudy Saltenberger, photographer John
Hundrieser, painted rock artist Jacquie Dyrke, wood turner
Grant Barlow, and bath and body creator Arlene Ehtessabian.
"The Holiday
Open House Sale is a great way to allow many local artists to
mingle with each other, as well as with the public. We hope
that a large crowd will come and show their support for the
local arts, and get some great one-of-a-kind gifts," Poe-Jensen
said.
Hello Galena's
custom "Gallery Gift Baskets" will also be available for purchase.
These feature a mix of local art and crafts in an attractive
hand-woven basket or local potter's bowl.
Hello Galena
also offers art classes on Thursday nights, called "Thursday
Night Art," taught by local artists. "People can stop in
and sign up for a class or two that they want to take," Poe-Jensen
said. "It's a good opportunity to find out what will be offered
and ask questions," she said.
