Love Rocks! At Hello Galena Artist Co-op
Hello Galena,
a local artist co-op, has announced a new line of products from
local artists. "Many of the local artists are creating new products
especially for Valentine's Day. They will have them in the shop
in time for Valentine's Day," Kimberley
Poe-Jensen, manager, said.
Jacquie
Dyrke,
Hello Galena's rock painting artist, has a new line of mini
pet rocks especially for the holiday, called "LOVE ROCKS!"
"These adorable
animals are painted in exquisite detail, just like her other
rocks. But these will have cute sayings on them, such as 'You're
a fox' on a fox, or 'Could you love a little stinker?' for a
skunk," Poe-Jensen said.
Dyrke said,
"These will range in price from $12 to $30, and people won't
throw them away like cards." In addition, Dyrke will make an
appearance at the shop at 121 N. Commerce Street, on Valentine's
Day, Sat., Feb. 14, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. As an extra bonus
for that day, she will personalize the rocks during that time
so that people can come into the shop and have their Sweetheart's
name put on the rock to personalize it.
"These would
be great gifts for friends, children or college students who
are away," said Poe-Jensen.
Other
artists will bring in newly created jewelry items, such as earrings,
necklaces, bracelets and pins. There will even be some new "candy
heart" necklaces for little girls by Beaded Delights on Hill.
"I created these with pendants that look like chocolate heart
candies," said Poe-Jensen.
"We have
new pottery by Stephanie O'Shaughnessy,
which is fabulous," Poe-Jensen said. O'Shaughnessy has created
a line of blue pottery, such as wine chillers, coasters, candle
holders and more.
Hello Galena
also sells local music, which is also another appropriate gift
for the holiday. "Scott Waterhouse's
new CD is wonderful and relaxing. Anyone would appreciate this
gift. And of course we have beautiful harp music by Pam Ohms
and Spanish guitar music by Leonardo," Poe-Jensen said. "All
of the music is wonderful and 100 percent local, so you won't
find it at chain stores. Even though this music is locally created,
it is quality music."
And
for people who want to give a rose that will last, there are
paintings of flowers and framed pressed flowers by Mercedes
Govert. For those who want a more unique flower, Hello
Galena carries all of Richard Pearce's
wide selection of wildflowers that are seen in the region. "And
these are flowers that your sweetheart can enjoy forever," Poe-Jensen
said.
Lois
Mihok,
a local artist who works with sculpture and paper, also has
a new selection of art at Hello Galena. "These make wonderful
gifts for men as well as women. Her themes usually include animals,
such as horses, deer and other wildlife. She also has framed
paper artwork that has intricate detail," Poe-Jensen said.
There
are also handmade wooden pens created by Grant
Barlow and local high school teacher, Larry
Cording.
Hello Galena
will also continue its sales of the "Gallery
Gift Baskets," which feature all local items. Custom orders
