Local Author and Artists Create Children’s Book
Freelance
writer, jewelry designer and part-time manager of Hello Galena,
Kimberley Poe-Jensen, has written a children’s book titled,
“When I Close My Eyes…I See Many Colors.” The book is fully
illustrated by local Galena artists, and was designed by Richard
Pearce, also a local artist.
“I have
written tons of children’s books from the time I was in high
school until now. But I’m finally at the point in my life that
I felt I should publish one. And now that I work with so many
talented local artists at Hello Galena, I thought that collaborating
with these artists was the perfect way to do the project,” Poe-Jensen
said.
The book
is a dream-like story that features repetition and some rhyme.
It starts off each page with the image of a child closing his
or her eyes and picturing the colors that surround them.
“I didn’t
allow the artists to work together on their images. Rather,
they picked a stanza of the poem that inspired them and came
up with their own original art for the book. Some of the artists
worked in pastel, some worked in oil and some in pen and ink.
And the wonderful thing is that it looks beautiful put together,”
Poe-Jensen said.
The book
is priced at $14.95 and is meant to be a keepsake of the local
artists’ work. It will be sold for the first time at Hello Galena
in Nov. 1. Several of the artists will be available for book
signings, as will the author. In addition, the original art
that is featured in the book will be on display at the co-op
as the featured art for the month of November.
