Hello Galena! Features Artist Paul Chase in October

Hello Galena! announces Paul Chase as the co-op's featuredPaul Chase Collage artist for October. Stop in the shop at 121 N. Commerce Street to see Chase's two- and three-dimensional works of art, including his internationally recognized fine art guitar paintings called "graphicguitars."

Chase will host a Meet and Greet event in the Hello Galena! shop on Oct. 26. He will share his passion and give autographs from 1-4 p.m.

The cliché, "Born to be…," is a truism when talking about the life and talent of Paul Chase. With ancestry that includes Georgia O'Keeffe, Chase was born to be an artist. During his childhood days in Sun Prairie, Wis., he drew illustrations with markers on t-shirts, and in high school, he helped artistically challenged students do their art class homework.

The sheer volume and variety of paintings, collages, and sculptures are evidence of Chase's creative energy. Any item is potential art in his eyes. LaPaul Chase sculpturendscapes, cityscapes, interiorscapes and themescapes are Chase's most recognized works. Guitars are his passion.

Guitars are taken apart and components used in collages or sculptures. Guitars are painted with oils. Guitars are incorporated into vineyard or western themed series. One guitar is 16 feet tall, and a book, "The Big Guitar," tells its story from creation to destination.

The Millennium Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, Tenn., is currently exhibiting more than 30 of Paul's large format paintings and prints and a growing collection of Paul Chase original painted guitars.

Copper is a favorite element in Chase's collage work and sculptures. His new collage series, Artist Paul Chase"CopperVisions" consists of large canvases painted in oils with copper foil and silk for dimension and texture.

Chase's natural talent was developed through art instruction at the University of Platteville. His bachelor's degree is in fine art; his master's degree is in graphic communication. For more than 30 years, Chase shared his skills by teaching others.

In addition to the Hello Galena! shop, Chase's pieces are on display at his Hickory Grove Studio, on his websites (paulchase.com; paulchase.net; graphicguitars.myshopify.com), in private collections, and in shops around the country.

Hello Galena! is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization made up of more than 65 local artists. Their artwork and signature gift items are displayed at 121 N. Commerce Street, Galena, Ill. Artists staff the art-only shop. Check out our handy online map, store hours and directions.
