Hello Galena! Featured Artists for September: Marie McDonough and Sandra Principe

Hello Galena! News: Released Sept. 3

Marie McDonough and Sandra Principe personify the premise that experience inspires art. Their varied backgrounds, which include environment and education, are the basis for their distinctive creations. McDonough's and Principe's works are in high demand.

McDonough was raised in the British Columbia bush country. She appreciates wood and prefers challenging, beautiful hardwood varieties, "I look at a piece of wood and see what it needs to become." McDonough's nature sculptures emanate from her childhood memories. She describes her personal approach to carving process, "I take off what doesn't belong, touch the piece with my hands, and take off more until it feels right."

Art education was earned and shared by McDonough. She studied advertising layout and design at Clarke College, taught private oil painting lessons, studied visual arts and sculpture in California, and became a business partner of a master wood carver Kent Quesnel. McDonough exhibits at regional museums and art festivals. Her works are on permanent display at the Hello Galena! shop and her website

Since earning a degree in English education with a minor in art from the University of Wisconsin, Principe has honed her artistic talent though selected classes at workshops and art institutes. Her Juris Doctorate work and experience as an attorney in Chicago afford authenticity for her Galena Mystery series.

The seventh novel, "Murder at Lake Galena," was released last December. An announcement of Principe's newest book in the series is seen on her website,

Principe's landscapes and floral paintings evoke emotional responses. Her florals capture a glowing light that illuminates exquisite details of the orchids and other flowers she paints. Her landscapes remind people of a destination or scene they love. Principe's paintings are included in private and corporate collections. She has exhibited in art shows from Florida to California, and shares her talents with students in her painting classes.
